Leanora Erica Aminata Mims

Creating cloth art that tells the story of the travels, history, culture, the struggle and triumphs of Diasporan women are what defines the exhibits of my work.  Through a generous grant from CAPS(Community Arts Partnership), I was one of featured artist in an exhibit held on March 3, 2017, at the CAPS Art Space in downtown Center Ithaca.  My work tells stories of the women of the Middle Passage and the diasporan women cloth artists. My work speaks of the textiles techniques and the cultural historical elements that have survived and are part of how we define ourselves today.  I work with global communities, school groups, Senior Citizens and non-profits to change assumptions of how children see themselves and she creates global lifelong networks for children to continually develop lifelong learning opportunities that benefit themselves and their communities.
